Size Guide
At Zinat Ali, we want you to feel confident choosing the right size. Our size chart includes Chest, Waist, and Hip measurements, which are the most accurate indicators of fit for our designs. Here’s everything you need to know to select your perfect size.
1. Chest / Bust
The chest measurement is taken flat across the widest part of the bust. This is the most important measurement for fitted and semi-fitted tops, dresses, and bodices.
• If your bust measurement falls between two sizes, choose the smaller size for a more fitted look or the larger size for a slightly relaxed fit.
• For loose, oversized, or draped styles, chest measurements are less restrictive, but still a helpful reference.
2. Waist
The waist measurement refers to where the garment naturally sits — either the natural waistline or slightly above/below depending on the design.
• Fitted dresses, skirts, and pants rely on this measurement for a precise fit.
• Some of our garments include adjustable elements (belts, ties, elastic), which allow flexibility across the waist.
• For styles that are semi-fitted or relaxed, the waist measurement can be used as a general guide, while comfort is also influenced by fabric and cut.
3. Hip / High Hip
In many of our designs, the hip measurement listed on the chart actually refers to the high hip, which is:
• The area just below the waist, above the fullest part of the buttocks
• Often where fitted skirts, dresses, or trousers begin to flare
Why we use high hip instead of full hip:
• It ensures the garment fits properly at the point where it transitions from fitted to flared
• It helps avoid excessive pulling or bunching in fitted areas
• For wide, loose, or balloon styles, the hip measurement is less critical because these designs have natural
4. Understanding Fit Types
Our garments come in different fit styles, which affect how measurements translate to your body:
1. Fitted: Close to the body, follows your natural curves (e.g., high-waist skirts, bodice dresses).
2. Semi-Fitted: Slightly relaxed while maintaining shape (e.g., draped kurtas).
3. Oversized / Relaxed: Loose and flowing (e.g., balloon shalwar, wide tops), where measurements are flexible.
When selecting a size:
• For fitted garments, choose the size that matches your exact chest, waist, and high hip measurements.
• For semi-fitted garments, you may size up if you prefer more room.
• For oversized garments, size can be more flexible, and measurements serve as a general guide.
5. Height Considerations
All our garments are measured and designed for a model height of approximately 170 cm (~5’7”).
• If you are shorter than 170 cm, garments may appear slightly longer (skirts may touch or pool on the floor).
• If you are taller than 170 cm, garments may appear slightly shorter.
• Adjust your size choice according to your height and your preferred garment length, especially for dresses, skirts, and trousers.
6. Tips for Accurate Sizing
1. Always compare your body measurements to the flat garment measurements listed in the size chart.
2. For garments with flares, panels, or adjustable elements, consider how the fit changes with belts, ties, or elastic bands.
3. Remember that high hip vs. full hip matters most for fitted skirts, dresses, and trousers — it’s the point where the garment begins to shape or flare.
4. If you are between sizes, consider your preferred fit:
• Smaller size for tighter, more tailored fit
• Larger size for relaxed or loose fit
7. Production & Fabric Notes
• Measurements are given flat, across the garment, and may vary ±0.5 inches due to production tolerance.
• Fabrics like silk, organza, and net drape naturally; slight variations in fit and length are expected.
• Adjustable features like ties, belts, or elastic bands are included to give some flexibility in sizing.
8. Custom Orders
If none of the standard sizes perfectly fit you, we offer custom-made options. You can provide your measurements, and we’ll create the garment to fit your body shape precisely.
